Mandee Gage -
Most of my work has consisted of objects made in clay and mixed media: wax, wire, latex and found objects. I have used the egg form as my metaphorical blank canvas, but I do also work directly with the human form through casting. Some of the egg series are small enough to hold in the hand others are larger and placed on furniture. A series of hollow pods hang from the ceiling and contain miniature scenes, reminiscent of fairy tales but with a more sinister twist. An interest in human development in relation to environment has shaped much of the work. I sometimes collaborate with a Professor of medical physics using a body scanner, computer manipulation and an industrial fabricator to create work.
